Overview
Japan's chipmaking base has shrunk since its peak in the late 1980s, but it still includes one of the world's largest NAND flash makers, a DRAM fab, the leading image sensor maker and a microcontroller leader. New fabs from TSMC's joint venture JASM and from Rapidus are adding logic capacity.
This group also includes fabless design and outsourced assembly and test (OSAT) companies, which connect Japanese chip demand to foundries in Japan and abroad.
