Sales of Japanese-Made Semiconductor Equipment
Sales of Japanese-made semiconductor manufacturing equipment reached ¥5.20tn in fiscal 2025. The Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ) forecasts 26% growth to ¥6.55tn in fiscal 2026 and ¥7.77tn by fiscal 2028.
- FY2025 (actual)¥5.20tn
- FY2026 (forecast)¥6.55tn
- FY2028 (forecast)¥7.77tn
Ten years of growth
These figures count sales of equipment made by Japanese companies, including shipments abroad and production at overseas plants of Japanese companies, by fiscal year (April to March). They more than tripled from fiscal 2016 to fiscal 2025.
What drives the forecast
SEAJ expects fiscal 2026 to grow 26% on strong investment in leading-edge logic for AI servers and a large increase in DRAM investment centered on HBM. For fiscal 2027 it forecasts 13% growth as new fab buildings are completed and can take in equipment, and for fiscal 2028 a further 5%.
The Japanese market
SEAJ also forecasts sales into Japan, from both Japanese and foreign equipment makers. It expects the Japanese market to exceed 2 trillion yen for the first time in fiscal 2028, as a large foundry's second-phase investment, preparation for 2 nm logic and memory investment overlap.
