Semiconductor Equipment Market by Region

Global semiconductor equipment sales reached $135.1 billion in 2025, up 15% from $117.1 billion, according to SEMI. China, Taiwan and South Korea bought 79% of it; Japan was the fifth-largest market at $9.5 billion.

Where equipment was sold in 2025

These figures show where equipment was installed, not where it was made. They measure how much each region spent on fab tools during the year. Taiwan's purchases rose 90%, while North America and Europe fell.

Japan as a market and as a supplier

Japan spent $9.5 billion on equipment in 2025 (+22%). New fab projects in Japan include JASM in Kumamoto and Rapidus in Hokkaido (see semiconductor fabs in Japan). As a supplier, Japan plays a much larger role: the Semiconductor Equipment Association of Japan (SEAJ) forecasts that sales of Japanese-made equipment, including shipments abroad, will grow 26% to about 6.55 trillion yen in FY2026 (April 2026 to March 2027).
