Overview

SCREEN traces its roots to Dainippon Screen Mfg., founded in 1943 as a maker of printing equipment. The group adopted a holding-company structure in 2014, and its semiconductor equipment business is run by SCREEN Semiconductor Solutions.

Wafer cleaning is repeated many times between process steps, so cleaning tools are installed in large numbers in every fab. SCREEN supplies both single-wafer and batch cleaning systems.

Business: Wafer cleaning, coat/develop and inspection equipment

Why it matters

Cleaning steps grow with each new process node and with 3D structures, which keeps cleaning one of the larger equipment categories by unit count.
Shiga Prefecture, east of Kyoto, is SCREEN's manufacturing base for semiconductor equipment.
