Region

Kanto (Tokyo area) Semiconductor Region

Most Japanese semiconductor companies have their head offices in Tokyo, but the Kanto region around it is also a production base. Renesas's Naka factory in Ibaraki is its most advanced in-house logic line, Advantest builds testers in Gunma, and Tokyo Seimitsu makes probers and dicing machines in Tsuchiura.

Overview

Materials makers are spread across the region: Shin-Etsu Chemical has wafer plants in Gunma and Ibaraki, Resonac has sites in Ibaraki and Chiba, and JSR has a plant in Chiba and research in Tsukuba. In Kanagawa, Ebara develops CMP systems in Fujisawa, ULVAC is based in Chigasaki and TOK runs its main operations in Samukawa.
