Overview

JSR was founded in 1957 and is headquartered in Minato, Tokyo. Its semiconductor business supplies photoresists for ArF immersion and EUV lithography, along with other process materials.

The acquisition of Inpria added metal-oxide resists for EUV, a candidate technology for finer patterning. Going private under JIC placed a key lithography material supplier under Japanese public-sector ownership.

Business: Photoresists and semiconductor materials

Why it matters

Photoresist is one of the materials where Japanese suppliers hold most of the global market; JSR, TOK and Shin-Etsu are the main names.
The JIC takeover shows how the Japanese government treats lithography materials as strategically important.
