Overview

ROHM was established in September 1958 and is headquartered in Kyoto. It acquired SiCrystal, a German SiC wafer supplier, in 2009, which gives it an in-house supply of SiC substrates.

It produces SiC power devices at ROHM Apollo's Chikugo plant in Fukuoka and, from 2024, at LAPIS Semiconductor's Miyazaki No. 2 plant in Kunitomi, a former solar panel factory. For the year ended March 2026 it reported sales of 481.1 billion yen and a net loss of 158.4 billion yen after a 193.6 billion yen impairment, mostly on SiC equipment, as EV demand grew more slowly than planned.

Business: SiC and silicon power devices, analog ICs

Why it matters

SiC power devices raise efficiency in EV inverters and chargers; ROHM's results show how sensitive this business is to the EV cycle.
Its SiC plants in Fukuoka and Miyazaki add to the Kyushu semiconductor cluster.
