Overview

HORIBA was founded in 1945 and is headquartered in Kyoto. Its semiconductor segment, led by its subsidiary HORIBA STEC, makes mass flow controllers (MFCs), chemical concentration monitors and other instruments built into process tools.

Almost every deposition and etch chamber uses several MFCs to control gas flows precisely. According to HORIBA's own research as of December 2021, the group held roughly 60% of the global MFC market.

Business: Mass flow controllers and process monitoring instruments

Why it matters

MFCs are components inside other companies' tools, so HORIBA's sales follow equipment shipments from makers such as Tokyo Electron, Applied Materials and Lam Research.
The market share figure is HORIBA's own estimate; independent figures are not published.
